a "cold" Dicember...

good morning to everyone, or good night, I don't know... I'm finally here! and I hope to make happy some people that asked me to write a new post 'cause everyy day look for it! (love you grandma!)
wll, it's finally Dicembre! the cold days, the snow, the pullovers are finally here! oh, wait. there's something wrong... it's a always like 32° every afternoon! tshirts, shorts and hot days also in Winter! I don't really know how I'm going to do in March...
but with this weather there is something good: the rain! yes, maybe you know that I don't lik it, but I started to see it from another prospective since I went to school and they said me to come back home 'cause there was too rain to have  classes and roads and school was full of water ahahha
well, in these weeks happened many things.. first of all I finally met others Italian guys in San Pedro Sula when we went to Immigration Office, so we spent all the day together and we decided to start plain our indipendent trip, that is supposed to be in Utila.. now we only have to find shaperons (that is a big problem).. it was really good see them, and I can't wait to see the ones that live in the South in the orientation at the end of Jenuary!
the 5 of Dicember I went to the concert of Romeo Santos in the stadium in SPS! it was an amazing concert! I don't know if you know this singer, but in Latino America is very famous for his "baciata"! and if you live here, you have to know this type of music! I was in the parterre with my sister and a friend of ours and we got wet a lot because it rain all the time! but, anyway, we had a lot of fun!
at school everything is okay, yesterday was the last day and now I'm on Christmas holiday! we also finished the semester and I've got good marks in exams!
and, even if I can't realize it, Christmas is coming! there are parties and dinner organized, lights everywhere and people are going crazy to buy presents! but, fortunatly, I've have it yet! yes! last week I recived the package from Italy with some gift for me and my family, and also my computer!
so I really hope to write more posts now!
in case I'm not going to keep up before Christmas I guess you a special day with your family and people you love! enjoy it!
with love, Maria

P.S. today there is the final match of championship, and my team have the posibility to become champion of Honduras! cross one's fingers!

Feeling Hondurena

First of all I have to say sorry to everyone who always reads my blog for my absence..but I've not many free time due to gym, school and others tasks.

Last Sunday I've been in Tela with my schoolmates, we spent the all the on the seaside making some pics for the senior's photo album. We all wore a white dress and pics were really nice, although the weather was not so good..we had a lot of fun together!
On Tuesday I've been in San Pedro with my sister and my dad to see Honduras-Mexico at the stadium. It was so nice to see the whole stadium cheering the team and, also if we (honduras of course) lost like always, I really felt part of this country and it's been amazing!
This weekend in Italy there were the selections for who wants to go abroad next year and getting in touch with guys who wants to leave was so weird for me..Times goes by so quick, OMG: it's already 3 months that I'm here!!!

What about Christmass? Here we've started to deck out our house and palm trees near the mall have lights on since 2 weeks ahah..but it's always 30 degree outside 🙈

News about my (new) life

Hi guys!
Last week I was talking about the party, it was great..so many people, all of them wearing a fancy dress and dancing. So different from Italian's parties..here "baciata" is the fundamental of the parties!
I also met an Italian guy who lived here two years ago, he was an exchange students like me and he just came back to see his family and friends.

On Saturday I started TES which is a literacy programme that all the seniors have to do for the graduation. You have to spend 5 hours during the week with people who couldn't study during their youth and teach them something basic in order to reduce the literacy rate in the country. It's a good voluntary experience but it means that for the next 20 Saturdays I cannot sleep anymore but I have to go to school and teach the alphabet.

On Saturday I went to Porto Cortes, a city on the seaside 2 hours away from my house, to cheer my city's football team. There I also met Giulia and Giovanni, two Italian guys that are living there now...I was super happy mostly because of Giulia, she's my classmate in Italy and I was used to see her everyday last year! Actually it was so weird when we met especially speak in Italian again (I think that now I speak Spanish better than Italian!! ahhah).

I wanna finish with a scoop, are you ready???
....
...
..
.
okay, I started to go to the gym!!! ahahahaha It looks like impossible but it's true, well..I'm just trying, I'll see ;)

Bye bye

Ciao!

....
...
..
.
okay,  ho iniziato ad andare in palestra!!! so che sembra impossibile ma almeno ci provo, poi non so quanto dureró ahahhah

Vi terrò aggiornati, bye :)

Let's party!

Finally yesterday evening there was the fancy-dress party we were waiting for! Being a member of Interact, a youth club, during the week I had to set up the saloon, sell tickets, I had to serve drinks during the party…and of course I had to wear the fancy-dress! It wasn’t really easy to find it, I was pretty unlucky, but in the end I decided to be a cow girl (or something like that..). I was very busy for all the week but the party was a success and I had a lot of fun!
I'm sorry for the delay and for writing few words but I don't have time, see you next week!

Already 2 months!

Another week has gone and exams finished finally! I had to study a lot but I've done all of them and I also got good marks so I'm really satisfied! :)

Today are 2 months and three days that I'm in Honduras and I can say that the language is not a problem for me anymore.. I can study, speak and understand almost everything when I watch the movies.. Of course sometimes I miss some words, mostly if they speak too fast, but overcoming language barriers helps me a lot, mostly with the relations between other people and feeling comfortable with them.
Two months can appear a really long time but it's not so much if you have to start a new life from the beginning.. Step by step I'm felling at home and not like a tourist on holidays.. I'm getting used to be called "gringa" just because I'm blondie and I look like an American girls who now lives here ;) ahah
People I had met are becoming real friends and day by day I'm getting closer with them. I can understand their habits and attitudes , what they think and what I'm expected to do (of course not always, some reasons are still unknown for me). After two months I can't imagine my life without this experience, I really cannot see me at home in Italy now! I'm learing to be self-aware and able to face different situations just by myself, I'm growing up and being familiar with a new reality..I'll not get back my old life anymore, I dont' want to! People I had met during these last months (in italy too), exchange students or not, what I've seen and learnt are now part of my life.

Well, I just want to finish this post with an advertisment ahah...if you want to be an exchange students choose AFS Intercultura, because it gives you the big opportunity to grow up but mostly you can became part of this worldwide awesome family! <3
Philosophical time is over..see you guys!! XOXO

Ok basta momento filosofico hahaha ci sentiamo presto!

Another "summer" day has come and gone away..but i don't wanna go home ;)

Hi guys!
Another week is gone, it was pretty exciting.. we had October Holidays from Wednesday to Friday, so I went to different places with my family..I've been in Omoa, small city on the seaside near the border with Guatemala. We had a rich seafood lunch near the sea and in the afternoon we visited a spanish fortress.. What a beautiful and amazing view this country can always offer to me!
Unfortunatly yesterday I started the exames (my first exames in my life! OMG!!) and I'll be busy all the week...now it's time to work hard, hope for the best!! (maybe I can get a better mark than I usually get in Greek! :P ) so..see you next week! (thanks to my sister Chiara who translated it in English for my this time, I miss you a lot!!! <3)
See you soon!

Ciao amici!

Speriamo in bene ;)
A presto!

the honduran school!

hello everyone! in this post I want to tell you about my honduran school in order to let you know something about it and my daily routine...
let's start with some basic informations:
- we go to school since Monday to Friday
- in the same school there are all the 11 grade of instruction, so there are 6 years old children and also 16 years old seniors
- the graduation is at the 11 year of school, so two years before than in Italy
- we must wear the complete school uniform and keep it clean
- my Honduran school is bilingual, so we have grammar, chemistry, biology, latinoamerican letterature in English, and we speack ONLY in English, whereas art, spanish literature, p.e., maths, physics, logic, economy, social investigation, senior education are in Spanish...

my day starts like this:
5.40a.m. alarm! I know it's very early but I need an hour to wake up, have a shower that usually include washing my hair, wear my uniform and have a rich breakfast... I wear daily uniform twice a week, twice I wear PE uniform and on Friday, my lovely Friday, I can wear what I want...
6.40a.m. taxi is coming! someone can think it is strange, but here it's the pubblic transport most used  and the most safe...
7.00 a.m. I start my school day! first of all, all the students make a line of their grade and they sing the national anthem (only on Monday), pray for the beginning of the day and listen news...
when we arrive in the classroom we start with 3 lessons, each one of 40 minutes, a break of 15 minutes, and then 4 lessons more... at 12.05a.m. we have lunch!  we have like 25 minutes and if we want to eat we can buy something at school, bring it from home, or make parents bring it... or, how I do, we eat when we come back home... in the afternoon we have other 3 lessons and at 2.30 p.m. we finish...
10 lessons every day can look very much and boring, but they make it different: you can keep more attention, they explain less, so you don't have to study 20 pages for the next lessons, and there is more variety of tems and teachers, so you don't get bored...
but let's talk about the relationship between teachers and stuents.. even if guys speack and stand up as much as they want, there is a contast respect between teacher and students... teacher is not someone to be scared of, but he is like a friend with whom you can joke around, share opinions, go to eat with, and that can teach you something, without be jude by him... they are always ready to explain you another time what you haven't understand in order to let you have a good mark in the exam... marks are composed by 100 points, you can get 70 of them with class works, works in group and homework that are always considered, and the other 30 point are form the exam that there is after two months and can be preceded by a partial...

ah, another thing that I've learn about the school since I'm here is that two consecutive days will never be with all the lessons... there are always extra activity, meeting with other seniors, visits at the university, social help activity and national feasts... you always be ready to take part to a parade, a food sale and meeting and award cerimonies!
I hope to have satisfacted some curiosities... see you with the next post! ;)

my first month!

without realizing it's a month since I've arrived in this family and my adventure has begun... it looks like such a short time but at the same time such a long one... when I think about the time I spent and the one I have to life I immediately decide to think about something else because it make me anxious... I fear that the next 9 months are not enought to know and live all that I want to and I fear to see them run too fastly like the first one... the wish to live every single moment and to don't lose time thinking about the past make me get up every morning to live as best I can my day! if someone ask me to have a resume of the last month I sure I'll give a positive answer...leaving my home and my routin wasn't so bad, I think it's mostly because I've decided to do this thing on my own and knowing what it mean, and also because a month looks only like a long holiday... another reason is that here I don't have much time to think about Italy and what my family and friends are doing, I'm too busy to try to understand the most of what people saying and to speak an acceptable Spanish (considering that the first days I was saying only "okay", "yes" or "no" I've improved!), I'm learning about school sistem and routine, I'm trying to get used to costums and approaches of people, and, not less important than others, I'm trying to survive with this warm weather... and all these things need time, energy and patience... yes, 'cause patience is the thing tha you mostly need during the first moments abroad... you need to be patient with the language, you need to be patient with the school, mostrly with new subjects, you need to be patient if you live with latinoamericans and their "mania" of doing everything with calm, very much calm, ( I think is the thing I mostly have to get used to), you need to be patient when everyone want to meet youy 'cause you are the news of the moment and you are like *wait a moment! let me know in which part of the world I'm!*, and mostrly you need to be patient when it's always more than 30°C, it's wet and as a result you have always bad hair (now the season of rain is beginning but the situation is always the sam, with the addition of puddles/oceans)... but at the end it's only question of time, to get used to and then everything will be better! 'cause there are also wonderful things that happen every day... like the smile of all the people that say you hello even if they've never spoken with you, the laughters with classmates that every day become more and more an essential part of this experience, the amazing landscapes that this country give to you, the food that is so good and I want to learn to cook very soon, the family that make me feel always more at home, the AFSers that understand you and always can say you what is better.... so, a firti mounth with some difficulties yes, but especially with many beautiful things...
now I only have to start this second month and try to make it better that the first one!

Live every single minute!

I'm so sorry for being in late but I had some problems with the comunications... anyway, now I'm here!
It was such a demanding and full week, but at the same time I'd realized what's happening! I'm really living in Honduras! we celebrated the day of the babies at school coordinating games for the little children, on Saturday I went to Choloma for the match of the soccer team of my city and we celebrated the birthday of my Honduran daddy, the Tuesday 15th of September was the indipendence day and in the morning we had a parade in the city centre with the guys of others college, for this reason I hadn't classes for the whole week and I went to Tela... I'm surprised about how every celebration is lived and heart-felt by all the people...I felt part of this Country too even if I'm here just for few weeks! I think this is one of the things that I like most of this place: the warmth of the people! but I can't forget the amazing landscapes that make me feel in a movie (for Tela's beaches I let the photos talk)...in addition to all theese beautiful things there are also some complications... the language, even if now it's better, often make me stopped and doesn't let me feel at ease, homesick is coming a bit (but just a little ahahah ) and I've discovered the "bad face" of this country... but everything is part of the experience, I take everything with the awareness that it's the past and I have to look forward, knowing that I must and I want to live every minute of this amazing year that is waiting for me!

Step for step...

Ciao a tutti!

P.s. presentazione dell'italia pronta!

Hi to everyone!
I'm so sorry if this post won't be fine but I can't always have the inspiration... There are three weeks since I've left and this city is becoming my new home... More time I spend here and more I understand that it is the right choice I had to do! With the family now that I speak and understand more Spanish it's going better and I feel no more a red fish in an aquarium hahaha at school it's the same... After the fist days of "orientation" I've started to speak how I use to do and to understand how the things are... For example I've understand that teaches are like a friend you can have a joke with or someone to whom share your love, and that like a real latinoamericans they don't know what is it be on time... They take everything more easily and they don'r care if something begin an hour later it's supposed to be... Now it's a personal goal stop to be ready before the time hahaha
So, with more Spanish in my head, the days at school, the matches at the stadium and the lunches with the family I'm beginning to feel I'm the right place and less "the new Italian girl"!
See you soon :)

P.s. Italy's presentation is ready!

Something to know

After two weeks in this beautiful country I can tell you something for answers to your questions...
The school is bilingual, so grammar, literature, biology and chemistry are in English and the other subjects like Spanish, Maths, Phisics and economy are in Spanish... The school-day startes at 7.00am, finishes at 2.30pm and is composed by 10 lessons of 40 minutes, a break and the lunch... I can tell that I really like this subdivision because it let us keep more attention during the lessons and it makes the day more dynamic... And, obviously, we have to wear the uniform...
Il cibo, unfortunately, it's really good! We eat meat, mostly chicken (fried is amazing!), tortillas, banana cooked in different ways and baleadas with cream of beans, cheese and eggs...
I think the best part are people! Here everyone is friendly and kind, my classmates are a bit crazy and the have a really particular relation with teachers... During the lessons everyone is ready for help others and have a laugh!
The culture! This week I have my second ufficial celebration for the day of flag with authorities and students from others college... I also went to the concert of a famous honduregnan artist and I assisted to the football mach of the city team where I took a photo with a player ahahah
Well, this country is surprising me every day! I hope to have satisfited some doubts, see you soon with more informations :*

First week!

Don't care about the stupid name, I have to begin...  I'm finally in Honduras! They have been so intensive days and I think this is the first time I stop to thinking a bit... I haven't had much time: Thursday meeting in Rome, Friday 25 hours of travel, Saturday orientation in English, Sunday meeting with the family, first days to understand where I am, and today the first day at school! It's was so full... I think I am one of the most happy people at the moment! I'm really excited to be here now! The first moment was a bit hard because here it's very different from Italy, but every day I feel more comfortable and I'm going to love El Progreso, a little city in the north of the country... Food is very good and family is really lovely with me! It's a big family because there are grandma, mum, sister, dad, aunt, uncle, two cousins and others relatives... They really want to make me feel at home with them! The first day of school was really exciting! We are seniors so we have a walk through the city with 4 pick up and orchestra and we have a triumphal entrance!  Classes was really good, classmates are so friendly and teachers are like friends for us, someone that they aren't in Italy... Unfortunately I'm so tired tonight so I close now... I hope to say you something interesting next week ;) byeee

Tonight is the night!

Ultima notte...
Invece, a quanto pare, è tutto vero!!

Last night... Also this day has arrived! It's here but I can't believe it... If I think that when I knew about the leaving there were more than 160 days left and now there are only few hours, it looks be absurd... My friends, my relatives ask me if I'm ready, I'm excited, I'm sad... My answer is always "maybe"... Because how can I be ready for something I don't know?! I know what could happen, but I also know that nothing will be as I have thought, it's to discover!

Now luggages are ready, I hope that the weight isn't too much and I'm preparing for the last night in my bed...the problem is that I can't understand how long is an year! I can't, I say goodbye to all my friends thinking that I'll see them the day after, because it looks me a dream, the dream that I had for the last 3 years... Instead of, it is all  really!!

Tomorrow I leave: say goodbye to home at 6.00 a.m. to reach Milan where I take train to Rome with 4 guys... And from that travel this new adventure will begin!!

Last week in Italy!

Solo sette giorni... Solo sette giorni, memorizza facce, voci e luoghi, mettili in valigia e parti!
Maria

Only one week, only seven days, and then what I'm waiting for months will begin... Only seven days and I'll travell to Rome with other guys ready to live my same experience far from home... every journey begins always with the first step

Maria

All started only with an easy step: a registration sended in a normal day of autumn made a move this incredible adventure... Then the time started to run and anxiety to increase; test began, I had to complete dossier and documents with the hope to can leave for a year in another country, for another life far from home and routine.. I didn't immediately know what I wanted, all the country had something special that I wanted to discover and to choose only 10 of them was really hard, but one mostly moved me: Honduras! I know that it can be banal, but I had started looking for informations about this country unknown for many because of its name, it had something charming, and after many researches about history and customs I decided to put it as the first choise... It is useless say that when the 20th of February I recived the mail from Intercultura that told me I was the winner for a scholarship for the year program in Hondurs excitement was incredible! A dream was coming true, I was officially an exchange student! From that moment I had only an obsessie thought! Countdown started, sing up in groups and meeting became habitual... If there is something that I love so much of this experience is that I feel part of a big family, I don't care if I don't know people I talk with, I have something common with them that is stronger than all difference, because we had a choise with all of us and we had followed it against problems... In that moment I spent the last months of school, when I had to keep good marks, dreaming the sea and natural beauties of ths country that made me fall in love... Comments from my friends weren't gone: they said me "Honduras? where is it?", "does it exist?", "it's in Asia, isn't it?", "they'll kill you", "why don't you choose USA?"... So, if you are wandering the same things now I answer hahaha  I chose this country  or maybe it chose me, because is a country little known, with a style of life different than our, but that I'm sure can offer many things, because think only about criminality it's like to tell that in Italy you eat only pizza... Infact one of the goal for exchange experiences is to delve into a new culture to tear down stereotypes, and it is what I'll try to do with this blog: I'll tell my experience to let more people know about Honduras and to help new students that are wandering which country choose... Coming back, suddenly, in a morning of June, exactly the 5th, I woke up and I found a message from an afs Honduras volunteer: panic! or maybe exhilaration! But I was very nervous when I was reading! I had a family! MY family! Valladares family had decided to open the door of its home to spend with me this amazing year! It was 5.45 a.m. but I didn't care: I started jumping across home and I told it to my sister that was sleeping! From that moment, if before it was fliing, time took a rocket! I'm keeping in touch with my host sister and I knew that I'll attend school with another italian guy at "Discovery School", a bilingual one in El Progreso, my future city! And yes, I'll wear school uniform that include black shoes and white socks.. But if I have to live like a normal honduran girl, I have to do it well! Summing up, because of I've write too much, there are 15 days left! Stress is increasing and at night I have mind fulled of thoughts... Emotion is really high, but I can't realise that in two weeks I have to leave my home, my friends, my family, my lake and my life for nearly 11 months... I guess I'll get it when I'll be on plane toward Miami, first step of my long travel! hahaha now days are getting less, I'm already saying goodbye to my friends and my relatives, I've also begun to make the list about what to put in my luggage knowing that in 20kg I cannot put everything I wish to... But it's a century that people leave with this luggage to country colder than mine... So it will the first step to pass in this experience... Like I told before, I'm lucky to share my feeling with many guys that are living the same ones and that are always ready to speak with me, because there is always an intercultura's guys that reply :)
My adventure started like this, I'll try to keep up to date my blog weekly telling something about me and my new life.. maybe I can write post shorted than this one hahaha I hope you liked this beginning, if it's not I'm sorry, it's the firts time that I'm taking a diary and I'm not so good in writing hahah
See you soon!
